Who
Firework Friend is run by Kingstone Consultancy Ltd, which is the data controller. Registered address: No1 Parkside Court, Greenhough Road, Lichfield, Staffordshire, WS13 7FE. Contact: privacy@fireworkfriend.com.
Alerts
If you sign up for alerts we keep your email address, your chosen radius and your email preferences. We look up your postcode once to find its location, then keep only that location rounded to roughly 100 metres. We do not store the postcode itself. We use this only to email you about fireworks reported near you. You can change the radius or delete everything at any time using the link in every email.
Our basis for this is your consent, which you give by confirming your email address. Unconfirmed sign-ups are deleted after 48 hours.
Accounts and pets
Signing up for alerts also gives you an account. To sign in we email you a link that works once and lasts 15 minutes. There is no password. If you sign in we set one cookie, which keeps you signed in for 14 days. It is strictly necessary, it only holds a signed sign-in token, and it is removed when you sign out or delete your account.
Signed in, you can add the names and breeds of your pets. Only you can see them, they are never used for anything else, and they are deleted when you delete your account, which you can do yourself at any time.
The map
Signed in, you see a map of confirmed fireworks near you, with estimated noise zones. Each pin is placed to within about 300 metres, so it does not show a particular house, and it shows only the time, size and whether the host announced it or neighbours reported it. Never a name, number, email or address. The noise zones are estimates and not measurements.
Reports
If you report fireworks we keep your name, email address, phone number, the location (rounded to roughly 100 metres), the first half of the postcode (such as BS8, used to describe the area to others), and the date, time, length and size. We keep your name, email and phone only to deal with misuse, and we never show them to anyone. Other people only see the approximate area, time and size. Unconfirmed reports are deleted after 48 hours, and everything about a report is deleted 30 days after the event. We check that a phone number is correctly formed but do not contact it or confirm it belongs to you.
Our basis for this is our legitimate interest in keeping alerts reliable and preventing abuse.
Who else sees it
All emails come from alert@fireworkfriend.com. Replies to hello@fireworkfriend.com reach the same inbox.
Firework Friend is free to use. We do not sell your details or use them for advertising. Confirmed reports appear on the open map without sign-in, with the position rounded to about 300 metres and without any name, email or phone number.
We use Cloudflare to host the site and store data, our own mail server to send emails, the postcodes.io service to turn a postcode into a location (the postcode you type is sent to it), OpenStreetMap for map tiles, but only if you open a map (your browser then contacts OpenStreetMap, which sees your IP address), and the GOV.UK local authority directory to find your council's website if your planned fireworks fall outside normal hours (only the council's name is sent). We do not sell or share your information for marketing.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your information, or object to how we use it, by emailing us. If you are unhappy you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Cookies
We use one cookie, and only if you sign in, as described above. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies or trackers.
